Challah, candles & cholent – a warm, flavorful tour through Jerusalem’s pre-Shabbat spirit
This tour follows the scents, sounds, and soulful traditions leading up to Shabbat in Jerusalem. From lighting candles and singing Shabbat melodies to the foods that define the holy day.
We’ll visit a small family-run Jerusalem bakery, meet the local baker, and take part in the mitzvah of separating challah – one to keep, one to take home. Of course, we won’t leave hungry: we’ll taste authentic cholent (or hamin), and debate – as all good Jerusalemites do – is it kugel or kigel? With pickles or without?
An atmospheric, heartwarming tour through the alleyways of Nachlaot, Zichron Moshe, and Mea Shearim – just before Shabbat enters. Guided by Chava Stein Yosef.
